Postponed to April 2022, the congress SOPCOM – Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences, will explore the theme of Communication and Disruption, with an emphasis on the fragmentation of the public sphere, transformed by continuous information flows and fostered by social and digital media. From 11-13 April, the XII SOPCOM Congress will take place at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University of Lisbon (NOVA FCSH), at the Colégio Almada Negreiros, Campolide Campus.

On April 11, in the session Monitoring and Surveillance, moderated by João Carlos Correia (UBI/LABCOM), Rita Basílio de Simões (FLUC/ICNOVA) and Inês Amaral (FLUC/ICNOVA) present “Self-monitored and quantified body: the reconfiguration of gender social relations through self-monitoring apps”.

In the session Practices & Influences on the 13th, from 11.30 am, moderated by Paula Lopes (UM/CECS and UAL/NIPCOM) two papers linked to the project will be presented: 1) “Challenging imaginaries: young adults’ mediated practices in mobile applications”, authored by Inês Amaral (FLUC/CECS), Rita Basílio de Simões (FLUC/ ICNOVA), Sílvio Santos (FLUC/CEIS20) and Ana Marta Flores (FLUC/ICNOVA) and 2) “Use of mobile applications by LGBTQI+ young adults/os in Portugal: an exploratory study”, signed by Rita Alcaire (UC/CES).

The researcher Rita Alcaire (UC/CES) also presents another article in the session Sensitivities & Transformations, moderated by Célia Quico (ULHT/CICANT) entitled “The role of new media in social science communication and the creation of empathy: the case of gender studies in Portugal”.
