The Call for Papers (CFP) of the pre-conference ‘Doing gender’ across mobile apps, organized by the MyGender project and the University of Coimbra, is already online. It will be an official pre-conference of the 9th edition of the European Communication Conference (ECC) of ECREA – European Communication Research and Education Association – and will be held online, on October 18th, 2022.

The pre-conference is currently accepting abstract submissions for theoretical and empirical studies that use qualitative, quantitative or mixed methodologies and whose focus is on the following topics:

  • How do the uses of m-apps dialogue with social and political contexts?
  • How does gender identity performances vary across different m-apps?;
  • To what extent do uses intertwine with the affordances of these apps?;
  • How do gender identities are negotiated and imagined in user experiences of mobile apps?;
  • To what extent mediated interfaces reproduce or challenge normative imaginaries of gender?

Other abstracts that focus on topics related to gender, sexuality, and app studies are also accepted.

The pre-conference organization will publish a book with submitted papers.

Abstracts (300 words max.) should be sent to mygender@fl.uc.pt until 1st of July of 2022. The notice of acceptance will be sent by the 15th of July.

The 9th edition of ECREA’s European Communication Conference (ECC) will be held October 19-22, 2022 under the theme “Rethink Impact”, organized by Aarhus University.
